Msgr. Robert J. Romano, an NYPD chaplain, gives a different type of homily at Brian Moore's funeral:
"I'm here to be with all of you, we're all here to be with you."
"We always get our man. We in the NYPD have a simple equated motto, and that we will never forget."
"It's been a tough week, a very tough week."
"Time heals all wounds, please never belive that, as we say in Brooklyn, it ain't true...We learn to live on with our lives...but the wounds will always be there."
"Sometimes [faith] can be as strong as the marbles of this pulpit, sometimes it can be as weak as we all feel this morining."
"Things happen in our lives, we might ask ourselves, 'where was God last Saturday?' I could say that it was with Brian, who accepted a call, a vocation...a vocation to be a cop and to be a hero."
"God gives us another gift, the gift of memories. Memories help us keep Brian alive."
"So memories don't even have to be things said or done, it can be something as simple as the smell of shaving cream of a sniff of food."
"We prayed a lot this past weekend. We wanted a miracle....we wanted full and total recovery for Brian. But it didn't happen."
"To this wonderful family, we are all here for you. You will never know how your strength and your dignity...affects us."
"Today is not like the moves 'the end.' It is a new day, a new beginning...We have to pick up the pieces."
"He was an American hero. He lived a life that was very short, but did many great things, with his family with his school...he was a team player."
"There is a Buddhist saying...it is a simple saying but I think it creates for us something to think about, something to pray about... 'When you are born, you cry and the world rejoices, when you die, you rejoice and the world cries.'"
"May God bless all of you, and may Brian rest in peace." -
